Since 2012, DC Writers Room has helped writers do what they love: write.

About the DC Writers Room

Established in 2012, the DC Writers Room provides a professional, respectful and quiet environment that fosters literary success. Since opening, we have served hundreds of writers who have published countless articles, books, poems, dissertations, and stage and screen plays. Writers work on their own schedule in our sun-filled, top floor suite, which is open year round, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Annie Przypyszny,

Social/Digital Content Coordinator

Annie Przypyszny is a poet and lifelong resident of the DMV-area. In her role as Social/Digital Content Coordinator at the DC Writers Room, she is committed to uplifting the voices of our members and other local writers.

Currently a third-year MFA student at the University of Maryland, Annie has work published or forthcoming in Smartish Pace, Sugar House Review, Beltway Poetry Quarterly, Laurel Review, and elsewhere. She loves collecting bookmarks, visiting used bookstores, and listening to the mellow tones of 70s soft rock.

Meet the Team

Donna Hemans, Owner

Donna is resolute in her belief that every writer deserves a space where their creativity can thrive. “We’re creating a hub for writers—a place where writers can come and work, can step away from all the distractions, all the noise, all the interruptions. And it’s a place where they can meet likeminded literary folks over lunch or a snack in the kitchen or a happy hour.”

Donna has owned and operated the DC Writers Room since 2020. A writer herself, she is the author of three novels, River Woman, Tea by the Sea, and The House of Plain Truth, and her short fiction and essays have appeared in Electric Literature, Ms. Magazine, The Rumpus, Crab Orchard Review, among others. She also serves on the board of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation.

“Writing is a lonely business, but there is comfort in knowing that the person typing away near you is doing the same thing you are—shaping a group of words and sentences and paragraphs into a story of some kind.”
